I help universities and youth outreach teams feel confident when working with children and young people, by improving their child protection and safeguarding skills and knowledge.
During my 15-year career in child protection, I have seen first hand how important safeguarding training is to children and young people, and the adults who work with them.
I started my career as an office junior in a law firm, working my way up to become a child protection lawyer, representing parents and children in court. After being made redundant, I joined the Local Authority where I began training social workers and teachers on child protection processes and court proceedings, and I loved it. I loved being in a training room and helping to guide frontline staff and volunteers through the tricky terrain of child protection. And I loved helping them make the right decisions and take the right actions for the most vulnerable in society.
I have been delivering safeguarding training to professionals, including nurseries, universities and youth outreach teams for more than 7 years. I take great satisfaction in watching that moment of recognition, when my delegates realise how the law applies to them, and how they can apply this in their working day. And I’m driven by the knowledge that by upskilling adults to handle disclosures and safeguarding situations with confidence, I am positively impacting the lives of them and children they engage with.
