FGM Awareness Course
Female Genital Mutilition (FGM) is a crime. Children and young girls are taken from this country to countries where the practice is part of the culture. Countries include many African nations and countries on the Indian continent.
However, despite knowing the practice occurs, no one in the UK has ever been prosecuted.
FGM had life changing consequences for the girls subjected to it.
In this half day training session, you’ll learn:
- What FGM is
- Factors placing girls at risk
- Warning signs
- Legislation around FGM
- How to report & referral processes
The training session uses a mixture of trainer led information, group discussion, case studies and videos.
This course is aimed at those with a safeguarding role and staff who need to be aware of the subject.
All delegates will receive a workbook, reflective log and a certificate of participation.
FGM awareness training can be adapted to suit your specific needs.
The course can be delivered at your premises. It can form part of an inset day or be delivered as part of a wider programme of awareness of contemporary issues in child protection.
